PRIMARY ROLE
Implementing animal husbandry and management practices for the Wing’s Wildlife Park animal collection and conveying environmental and conservation awareness messages to park visitors.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Available to work between the hours of 8.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Sunday.
- Physically apt to work within all areas of the park (Health assessment from doctor to be provided including mention of any allergies).
- Tetanus vaccination up to date is mandatory (certificate to be provided).
- Confident with public speaking with guests within the park, individually and in small groups.
- Have a strong commitment and willingness to learn.
- Maintain an elevated level of commitment to personal presentation.
- Presents a strong work ethic and a passion for the delivery of quality customer service.
- Have a Working with Vulnerable People Card (if over 16 years of age).
- Manual driver's licence mandatory.
- Be adaptable.
- Computer skills is an advantage.

KEY CHALLENGES:
- To maintain healthy animal stock throughout the park.
- To ensure the park is always presented in a professional manner.
- To deliver a high-quality hands-on animal encounter.
- To always engage with park visitors: creating an enhanced and customised experience (e.g. drawing attention to a newborn wildlife).
- To deal professionally with a broad range of visitor enquiries and possible concerns relating to the display and management of animals in the park.
- To master presentation skills to engage interest of the public.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Wings Wildlife Park is a smoke-free workplace across all its sites, facilities and vehicles.
- The park is a 7-days a week operation, including public holidays (closing Anzac Day and Christmas Day).
- The park is a physically demanding site with areas having a very steep gradient and accessible only via foot. The keepers mostly work outside in all weather conditions.
- The position requires staff to recognise workplace hazards such as dust, noise, repetitive movement, prolonged standing and deal with them accordingly for risk minimization.
- Keepers must always wear approved identification, respect the dress code and carry a two-way radio.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Experience Required:
- Knowledge and experience in captive animal husbandry.
- Experience with animal training and conditioning techniques.
- Demonstrated customer service and teamwork ethos.
- Demonstrated presentation and communication skills.
- Understanding of and commitment to conservation and environmental sustainability.
Qualifications & Licences:
- Hold a current manual Tasmanian Class C driver’s licence.
- Hold a valid Working with Vulnerable People card or willing to obtain.
Qualifications: completed or actively completing the following:
- Certificate in Animal Studies II preferred.
- Wildlife Rehabilitation training.
